Newer tests for hepatitis C virus could transform screening

Several newer tests for hepatitis C virus are highly sensitive and specific and could transform the current two test screening process into a single test, a systematic review has concluded.1
The review, published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, will inform an upcoming World Health Organization guideline on hepatitis C screening. As many as 150 million people are infected with chronic hepatitis C virus, and around three quarters of these are in low and middle income countries.
